Warn winch works with car battery but not with switch?

I don't know really anything about these things but I've been looking online enough to know I can test the winch motor with a car battery. When I did this the winch would go in and out just fine. I tried cleaning the contacts at the power cable contacts with a wire brush but still no power from the switch. I tried, best I could, examining all the wires from the switch and down to the solenoid... Everything appeared fine. Where do I go from here? It is a rocker switch, if that matters and it is a Warn 3000lb 3.0 ci although I do not know the model number. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
