Pokemon battle resolution wii, help!?

Have you played the wii game enough with rental pokemon to be able to transfer pokemon from your ds game? I remember i had trouble with that too. Also if you are using a r4 or cyclods or something similar then it will not work. You have to have a legit copy of the ds game to do it.
