I was given this really old pretty Japanese musical instrument.... What is it called?

It is about 1 1/2 feet long and looks like a small guitar style harp that lies on it's back... Really pretty looking with looks of color and textile work... What do think it is called??? Comes in a nice box also... I will add more info if you need it to find out just what it is... Thanks for help... Tim
